You can smile every smile for the man

You make the promise that you save the last dance for me
Save the last dance
The very last dance
For me!
1)And in whose arms you’re gonna be
2)Till the night is gone
3)Can he walk you home, you must tell him no

◆ Early Life
Michael Steven Bublé was born in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada on September 9, 1975 to Lewis Bublé, a fisherman from the island of Lussino (today Lošinj in Croatia) of Italian, or more specifically Venetian origins, and Amber (née Santaga). He has two younger sisters, Brandee, a children’s book author, and Crystal, an actress. He and his siblings were raised Roman Catholic. He attended Seaforth Elementary School and Cariboo Hill Secondary School.
According to an Oprah Winfrey interview on October 9, 2009, Bublé had dreamed of becoming a famous singer since he was two. When he was a teenager, he slept with his Bible and prayed to become a singer. His interest in jazz began at around age five when his family played Bing Crosby’s White Christmas album.

■Drifters’ version (the original)
Released August 1960
Genre R&B
Length 2:34
Label Atlantic
Songwriter(s) Doc Pomus, Mort Shuman
Producer(s) Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller
In a 1990 interview, songwriter Doc Pomus tells the story of the song being recorded by the Drifters and originally designated as the B-side of the record. He credits Dick Clark with turning the record over and realizing “Save The Last Dance” was the stronger song. The Drifters’ version of the song, released a few months after Ben E. King left the group, would go on to spend three non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the U.S. pop chart, in addition to logging one week atop the U.S. R&B chart. In the UK The Drifters’ recording reached #2 in December 1960.
In the song, the narrator tells his lover she is free to mingle and socialize throughout the evening, but to make sure to save him the dance at the end of the night. The was reportedly written on the day of Pomus’ wedding while the wheelchair-bound groom watched his bride dancing with their guests. Pomus had polio and at times used crutches to get around. His wife, Willi Burke, however, was a Broadway actress and dancer. The song gives his perspective of telling his wife to have fun dancing, but reminds her who will be taking her home and “in whose arms you’re gonna be.”

Lyrics
